LOrk•A is an orchestra consisting of portable computers that are used in concerts as musical meta-instruments. The members of the orchestra have to code, configure and compose music for computers and other musical hardware in order to perform music in live musical events. The orchestra is based in the Department of Music Studies but can involve any AUTh student. In the concerts of the ensemble, people from different geographical locations can participate through an internet connection (Networked Art). Our goal is to expand the knowledge students have received in other electronic music courses and to focus on deeper artistic as well as technical-technological and philosophical issues such as the composition of new works and improvisations through the development of new computational tools, as well as the stylistic, analytical and technical approach of their concert presentation.
